First come, first rock.

While traveling this week, my indomitable reflex to seek out the local used record stores led me to Cat's Music outside Charleston, SC. They had a dollar bin, and I was surprised to find a few things of interest there. But I was floored to find a copy of this.

Flat Earth Society is an experimental jazz big band hailing from Belgium. Led by clarinetist Peter Vermeersch, the group released several albums worth of material on native labels before being "discovered" by American badass (and musical visionary) Mike Patton and signed to his own Ipecac label. Isms is the result, a compilation of cuts from FES's previous releases. This is a stunning album, churning like a field of windmills with energy to spare. The tracks vary greatly in style, mood and length, which makes every raucous horn statement, syncopated drum beat, piano solo or chorus appearance (?) an unexpected treat. You can read more about the band and the album on allmusic.com, and the Ipecac website has a nice little bio as well.

Thing is, I already have this album. But for just a buck, I couldn't pass it up. So I decided to grab it, blog it and spread the love. Yes, I wanna give this bad boy away to a loving home. I sincerely hope that among my musically sophisticated friends and family there will be interest in such a terrific and inspired album. If you need more exposure, there are samples at the album listing on amazon.com.
So, email me if you are interested. First to respond wins!

UPDATE on 9/2: The album has since been claimed. Stay tuned, as there may be more giveaways!
